Human Service
One of the most satisfying, fun and productive ways to unite a group of people is volunteering for the community and performing service projects. Human Service is the motto and guiding principle of Acacia. UW Acacia has taken this phrase to heart and taken it seriously here in our greater Seattle community.
One service activity preformed by UW Acacia occurred on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service for United Way Seattle. A sizeable number of UW Acacians volunteered time to help the local community with an urban restoration project to upgrade the local Magnolia neighborhood. On that day, we planted plants, trimmed trees, built rockeries and cut grass, among other tasks.
A similar adventure was taken on February 16, 2015, Presidents Day Weekend. With no school occurring on the Monday of that week, we Acacians took advantage of another opportunity to get involved in the community and volunteer spare time. Getting involved in service community activities is very important for UW Acacia and provides outside learning experiences while greatly enriching a student’s college experience.
Volunteering and community service benefits both the community and our Acacia family. Getting involved in the community teaches people that we are all responsible for the well being of our communities. Once people recognize this, the possibilities of our communities are endless.
